TRU Directors/Writers Lab November 2015

COMICCON was workshopped in a session.

It was WELL worth it!!

I got to talk through my hopes & dreams for the show with Mary McGinley and she was able to give me director-type feedback on some of the characters.

I've been thinking about re-writing it as a cast of 2 or 3 or 12.  She got VERY excited about the idea of having the 2 main characters and having a 3rd actor play all the others, which I just thought was MARVELOUS!

TRU itself has been around for 24 years and is one of the BEST ways to get info about the NYC theater community.  In addition to this lab, they also do a whole variety of other workshops and monthly sessions with different topics/speakers for each one.  Join them if you haven't yet!!

Fanfic?

Just sent something to a fanfic group.

Does this show count as fanfic?

I think so.

(Also submitted to a Director/Writer's forum.  I think it's appealing & straighforward enough to possibly be REALLY fun for a Director to play with)

inspiration

So, no that this was an inspiration.  But it was.  One of MANY.

Also New York Comic Con.  The first one.  Which had LOTS of empty tables.

Another New Idea

Maybe it's old.

Birds in a cage.

Put together by circumstance
How long you in for?
Bad jokes, like the ones told in a protest jail type scene.  Except they actually get to the matting part.

And then glare at the audience and ask for the cage to be covered or privacy or whatever. Or maybe they realize they aren't in control of their privacy.

Funny.

What if the comic con is not so comical?

Serious, deep down.

But funny.

The first in years

I saw a listing for a BBC radio play. He deadline was in a few days.

So I wrote it.

And it is versatile. As an actual play, it was asked to be part of the Thespis Festival, January 2014. It would have been up, if I were still living in that neighborhood.

That's where it is impossible to be alone in theater.
